Recently, there have been more deaths from road accidents in Kenya. In the latest incident, three bodaboda riders died in a crash in Kakamega.
Reports say it involved a group of motorbike riders in a funeral procession on the Musoli-Sigalagala Highway. Eyewitnesses mentioned that the three were doing dangerous tricks when they crashed into a vehicle.
They were lying on the road, drinking alcohol, and making loud noises, according to witnesses. They were escorting the body of a young man killed in a previous accident involving a police vehicle.
“They embarrassed us. They were doing dangerous stunts while drinking, causing chaos. Authorities should teach them about road safety and discipline,” said one witness. Another group of riders in the same procession had earlier hit a woman, causing serious injuries.
This accident happened after the Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, pointed out that the motorbike taxi sector contributes significantly to road accidents in the country.
