The family of Lornah Chebet in Kapsara, Kitale, is in deep mourning following her untimely death in Saudi Arabia.
Chebet had traveled to Abha in pursuit of better work opportunities and was employed as a domestic worker. Her life ended tragically after a fatal road accident involving her employer’s family.
According to reports, Chebet was traveling with her employer, the employer’s husband, and their two children on the way to Riyadh when their vehicle was involved in a serious crash. The collision claimed the lives of the employer’s husband and one of the children at the scene.
Chebet and the remaining victims were rushed to Al-Muzahmiyya General Hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, Chebet later died from her injuries. The surviving child is still receiving treatment, while her employer remains hospitalized. The four-year-old who died was also taken to the hospital.
In Kitale, the family received the tragic news via social media. Her sister, Mercy Jepkemoi, confirmed the loss, explaining that Chebet was the fourth of six siblings. She expressed deep sorrow, highlighting that Chebet had left home with hopes of supporting the family, only to lose her life far from home.
The family is now coordinating with authorities to bring her body back for burial. Chebet’s death has once again highlighted the risks and challenges faced by Kenyans seeking work in the Middle East.
