The ongoing impeachment talks concerning Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have garnered significant public attention, particularly following the chaotic scenes at Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi. The public participation process which began on Friday, has seen citizens from various constituencies share their opinions on whether the Deputy President should be impeached. However, the sessions have not been without disruptions, as witnessed in the physical confrontations that erupted on the first day at Bomas.

The National Assembly extended the public participation exercise until today, Saturday, 5th October 2024, to accommodate more views. Members of the public are encouraged to submit their opinions through their respective Constituency or County Women Representative offices.

These submissions will then be forwarded to the Clerk of the National Assembly for review as part of the ongoing discussions around the special motion seeking Gachagua’s removal.

On Saturday, Kenyans continued to express their opinions with many raising concerns about Gachagua’s alleged tribal remarks. While one of the basis of Gachagua’s impeachment is that he has been encouraging ethnic division, one of the vocal participants, Murega, has accused both President William Ruto and his Deputy of being tribal.

He said, “Rigathi is tribal by words, but Ruto is tribal by actions, and we all know actions speak louder than words.” Murega stated that if Gachagua is to be impeached, President Ruto should also face similar scrutiny.
