Rigathi Gachagua has lifted the lid on what he claims is President William Ruto’s grand scheme to seize control of the Judiciary by removing Chief Justice Martha Koome and dismantling the Supreme Court.
In a startling revelation, the former deputy president said Ruto personally told him that he “must control the Supreme Court” to safeguard his political future. Gachagua admitted that at first, he dismissed Ruto’s words as a joke—until events started unfolding in a direction that now convinces him otherwise.
As reported on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Gachagua accused Ruto of targeting Koome due to her firm stance on judicial independence. He claimed the president had long been frustrated by her refusal to be influenced, even blaming Gachagua himself for failing to “manage” her as a leader from the Mt Kenya region.
“He shared with me many times, even quarrelled me, saying a daughter from the mountain is being problematic,” Gachagua alleged.
Beyond removing Koome, Gachagua warned that Ruto intends to overhaul the Supreme Court entirely, replacing judges with those aligned to his interests.
He cautioned that this move could lead to state capture, where judicial proceedings would be predetermined to serve the president’s agenda.
