According to renowned attorney Wahome Thuku, Reverend Teresia Wairimu is set to be kicked out of the State House intercessors WhatsApp group. This follows the preacher’s Sunday sermon at the Faith Evangelistic Ministry (FEM) Church, in which she publicly denounced President William Ruto’s administration.
Longtime First Family friend and ardent supporter of Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Reverend Wairimu, voiced her displeasure with the current government. She said she is dissatisfied by the government’s disregard for crucial issues impacting the people and feels ashamed to have voted for it. She remarked, “We are sending most of you home,” criticizing the administration.
We are sick and tired of having noise,” Wairimu said, expressing the annoyance that many people feel. We are looking for workers and entertainers. Serve the country and the electorate that supported you. Her remarks coincide with a high level of tension between President Ruto and Deputy President Gachagua, who has accused the government of attempting to murder him and faces impeachment.
Wairimu’s comments are indicative of a larger dissatisfaction among segments of the clergy who had previously backed the Ruto-Gachagua team in the 2022 elections but are now fed up with their leadership. Given her strong connections to the First Family, Reverend Wairimu’s criticism is noteworthy as one of the leading voices in the religious community. She believed in the promise of a government that would prioritize serving the people; thus, she backed Ruto during the elections.
She now expresses sorrow over her backing, calling the administration “a government of conflict.” The controversy is further compounded by Thuku’s claim that Wairimu would be kicked out of the State House intercessors WhatsApp group, which suggests the government may be moving away from its previous religious partners.
