Rev Lucy Natasha and her hubby Prophet Carmel had a candid interview with Lynn Ngugi on her YouTube channel.
The couple spoke about their ministry, love life and challenges they face in their day to day life.
Natasha and Carmel had their traditional wedding this year.
She said one of the challenges she is facing is that God gave her a husband out of her community
“He has also married away from his Indian community. There are small challenges here and there in terms of culture. The best thing is we have exposure,” she said.
“Like when we were getting married, in the Indian culture it is the woman who pays for dowry but in our culture, it is the man who pays the dowry.”
When asked who paid for the dowry, Natasha laughed and said they found a common ground.
“That one, we will leave it to another time.”
She added that the food is also different but she is learning how to cook Indian food.
Speaking about their families, Natasha said they have connected and both are Christian families. “His parents are pastors and I am also from that kind of a family. They understand and pray for us.”
Natasha said being single for a long, people have judged her decision.
“They will crucify you in the court of public opinion and I have been single all through, so it’s a challenge. Just because they don’t know us and something was written, they judge us with that but the good thing is if they don’t know us personally, we don’t take it personally.”
Her hubby said they don’t focus on the negativity.
On whether she is planning to run for a political office, she said no.
“We bare no hand in politics. We support those in the government but we do not have plans for political posts. We are just spreading the love of Christ. We give because we care.”
(In Indian culture, Dowry refers to the durable goods, cash, and real or movable property that the bride’s family gives to the groom, his parents and his relatives as a condition of the marriage.
Dowry is essentially in the nature of a payment in cash or some kind of gifts given to the groom’s family along with the bride and includes cash, jewellery, electrical appliances, furniture, bedding, crockery, utensils, vehicles and other household items that help the newlyweds set up their home.)
