The Kenya Meteorological Department on Monday issued a detailed weather advisory for the week, alerting Kenyans to brace for varied weather patterns, with rain forecasted across many regions in the first half, followed by sunny, dry conditions toward the end.According to the advisory, regions including the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and the Lake Victoria Basin are expected to receive significant rainfall early in the week. The department warned that these rains may be accompanied by isolated storms, particularly in regions around Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi Counties. In these areas, residents should anticipate morning rains and showers in the afternoon and evening, with thunderstorms also possible.
In addition to wet weather, the advisory noted that these counties are likely to experience intermittent sunny intervals during the day, providing occasional breaks from the rain. The nights, however, are expected to remain partly cloudy, which may bring some relief but could also lead to damp conditions persisting through the night.Other regions, including the Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands, the Coastal areas, and Northeastern Kenya, will also be affected by the rains and possible thunderstorms. Areas such as Siaya, Kisumu, Lamu, Mombasa, and Bungoma should prepare for wet conditions during the week’s initial days.
For the second half of the week, the Kenya Meteorological Department indicated a likely shift toward drier and sunnier conditions. “The second half of the week is likely to be generally sunny and dry, with average daytime (max) temperatures expected to exceed 30°C in several areas,” the department stated. Temperatures are anticipated to rise significantly, especially in northeastern and northwestern regions, including Butere, Kakamega, Busia, Wajir, Mandera, Bungoma, and Vihiga Counties, among others. This warm spell will extend to parts of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta Counties, as well as inland areas of Tana-River County.
However, the weatherman also highlighted that the Central Highlands and Rift Valley regions may experience exceptionally low night temperatures, with drops below 10°C expected in parts of these areas. “Night-time (min) temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands and Central Rift Valley,” read the advisory. The department urged Kenyans to stay updated on the changing weather patterns and to take necessary precautions, especially as they prepare for potential temperature fluctuations and rainy conditions through the first half of the week.
