As tensions continue to mount in Kenya, the Norwegian Government has expressed its worry and concern over the Raila Odinga-led Azimio coalition protests.
Norwegian Ambassador to Kenya Gunnar Andreas Holm sought clarification on the protests and the grievances being championed by the Azimio during a courtesy visit to the National Assembly (NA) Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
Wetang’ula briefed the Ambassador on the reasoning behind the stoppage of the IEBC recruitment process as well as two annulled elections that legally require a by-election within 90 days.
He further asserted that although the demonstrations had heightened tensions, the institutions of the Kenyan Government tasked with the protection of life and property were prepared and up to the task of doing their jobs effectively.
This has gone a long way to assuage the Norwegian Government’s concern, although there is still the necessity for peaceful protests and meaningful dialogue between all parties involved to ensure a better future for Kenya and its citizens.
