Kenyan TikToker Rachel Otuoma has stirred online debate after firmly declining a job request from a netizen who asked to work as her house help. The content creator, who recently lost her husband, former AFC Leopards footballer Ezekiel Otuoma, dismissed the request, arguing that she does not need domestic help since she lives alone.
During a TikTok Live session, a user identified as @phenifemi inquired if Rachel could employ her as a house help. In response, Rachel stated that instead of paying someone to do “nothing,” she would rather send the money to her mother every month.
“That KSh 5,000, 7,000, or 10,000 I’d use to pay a house help? I’d rather give it to my mum than bring someone here who will do nothing,” she said.
Her blunt response drew mixed reactions, with some social media users supporting her decision, while others criticized her tone and perceived arrogance. Many felt she could have responded more politely instead of outright dismissing someone seeking employment.
Rachel has been facing scrutiny since returning to TikTok just a week after her husband’s burial. Some have urged her to take time to grieve, but she has defended her actions, stating that she spent years caring for her ailing husband and now wants to focus on her life and career.
Despite the backlash, Rachel remains unapologetic and has even landed new brand deals, which she proudly flaunts on her social media. The controversy highlights the challenges of public life, where every statement can be scrutinized and misinterpreted.
