A week after dust settled on Nairobi’s anti-government street protests, a section of angry youths in Nandi county revived the protests.
On Tuesday morning, a group of youths stormed the office of Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, demanding accountability and expressing frustration over delays in the implementation of capital projects.
This came after youths mobilized themselves over the week, with #OccupKapsabet hashtag trending for the better part of Monday on social media
The group, visibly agitated, called for immediate action and transparency from the Governor’s office. They claimed that several promised projects had yet to commence, causing widespread dissatisfaction among the community.
“We are here to demand answers,” one of the youth leaders stated. “We have been waiting for these projects to start, but there has been no progress. We need to know where the funds are going and why the projects are delayed.”
The protest came amid dissatisfaction and growing concerns among residents about the pace of development in the county. The youths pointed to specific infrastructure projects, including roads, schools, and healthcare facilities, that were promised during the last election cycle but have seen little to no progress.
Kapsabet was among the few towns in the North Rift region that remained quiet few weeks ago when Gen Z groups took to the streets to demonstrate against Ruto’s finance Bill of 2024.
Governor Sang’s office has not yet released an official statement regarding the protest. However, sources within the office indicated that discussions are ongoing to address the concerns raised by the youths and to provide a detailed update on the status of the various projects
