Harry and William have always had a tense relationship
Prince William believed “outsider” Meghan Markle was too “opinionated” after Prince Harry began dating her, according to a bombshell new royal book.
In Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, author Omid Scobie delved into the fractured relationship of the royal brothers. According to the book, William and Harry’s rivalry was nothing new and it existed in both their dynamic as brothers and in the function of royal family members. However, everything heightened when Harry brought Meghan around.
Scobie wrote: “Meghan Markle’s arrival was a jolt to the system, but William soon expressed concern that Harry was moving too fast with someone who had lived a life so far removed from that of his brother.”

According to the book, Meghan appeared to be an “outsider” to William given their different upbringings, nationalities, and more. Her American lifestyle clashed with the one he was familiar with. He was put off by Harry’s unwillingness to consider the risks that their non-traditional relationship could pose to the royal establishment. “At the expense of the family image,” Scobie explained. “It was felt that Harry was rushing into something that had serious blowback potential.”
Their relationship continued to crumble as Harry reportedly felt unsupported and even accused William of not helping to make Meghan feel welcome. In fact, leaks began to come from within the walls of the Palace revealing that William truly didn’t like Meghan. He reportedly spilled to aides and family members that he believed her to be “opinionated.”

Additionally, he took issue with the way she spoke to his staff and the “drama” that came along with her family. A source told Scobie: “William shifted away from acting like a brother and became more like someone only focused [on the Crown].”
Eventually, the issues between Harry and William became such an open secret they were forced to address is publicly. A joint statement was issued from the pair that pointed fingers, calling the rumours merely “inflammatory language” and discouraged the continued reporting that there was trouble between the two. However, a source told Scobie that Harry was not briefed on the statement and it was put out without him.
