The continuing Azimio demonstrations have led to new information about Kenya Kwanza MPs petitioning Parliament to change the constitution. The MPs assert that they favor keeping the president as the Public Service Commission’s de facto executive chair. A court decision that invalidated CAS appointments as being unlawful led to this action.

In spite of the ongoing protests, President Ruto and his administration have kept up significant efforts to weaken the opposition. President Ruto will be in charge of all government positions across the nation as a result of his decision to become the Public Service Commission’s chair.

Given that he has been charged with making biased government appointments, it is unclear why the president wants the chairman of the Public Service Commission. However, given the president’s efforts to exert control over all governmental institutions, Kenyans are waiting to see how the future plays out.

A confrontation with the Azimio leaders who are opposed to him is expected to result from the president’s most recent action. It is evident that Azimio wants to participate in politics, thus it goes without saying that they would never want the president to have final say over who gets appointed to which state or federal agency.
