Kenyans have applauded President William Ruto for hosting Budapest World Athletics gold medalists Faith Kipyegon and Mary Moraa at State House, Nairobi, on Saturday, September 2. The president praised the two athletes for their outstanding performance and awarded them Sh2 million each.

Kipyegon, who broke the world records in both 1,500m and 5,000m races, also received a three-bedroom house worth Sh6 million at Park Road, Nairobi, as part of the government’s affordable housing project. Moraa, who won the women’s 800m race, was also promised a house by the president.

The president said the government will support a three-month residential camp for the Kenyan team that will represent the country in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France. He said the move will help in restoring the country’s position as an athletics powerhouse in the world

Kenyans took to social media to express their appreciation and admiration for Ruto’s gesture, saying that it showed his respect and recognition for the athletes’ achievements. They also commended him for his Talanta Hela initiative, which aims to reward and nurture young talents in sports and arts.

Some Kenyans also commented on the adorable moments between Ruto and Kipyegon’s daughter, Alyne, who stole the show at State House. Alyne was seen playing with the president’s documents and seal, and even sitting on his lap. Kenyans said that Ruto displayed his fatherly side and his love for children.

Kenyans also congratulated Kipyegon and Moraa for making the country proud and inspiring many young girls to pursue their dreams in athletics. They wished them more success in their future endeavours.
