While addressing mourners during Kelvin Kiptum’s burial, President William Ruto gave his speech and relayed plans to compensate the widow and her kids.

In a statement, the President said that the Government has granted Asenath Rotich, the widow of late marathoner Kelvin Kiptum a sum of Sh5M.

The Head of State further promised to build her a better house, in addition to the one built by the Government in 6 days.

Ruto added that he would be having a sit down with the governor of Elgeyo Marakwet to start plans on Asenath attaining a job in the County Government so that she would be able to maintain herself and the kids.

“Huyu kijana tushampatia million tano tayari na serikali itampatia nyumba mzuri, bali na ile nyumba tumejenga hapa tutampataia mzuri huyu kijanakwa mama asenath nitakereti chini na gavana wenu alafu tukubnariane ile kazi itatoshana na huyu mama ndio weze kusimamia watoto wa mwanariadha wetu Kelvin.” Ruto stated.

President Ruto’s latest decision comes a week after the head of state sent engineers to Kiptum’s homestead with instructions to build a three-bedroom house.

Ruto directed the experts to construct the house within seven days before the athlete’s burial which took place on February 23.

According to Kiptum’s father, it was Kiptum’s last wish to build a home for him before the athlete met his tragic death in a road accident.

While commenting on the matter, Kiptum’s wife, Asenath disclosed that the athlete had already drafted his architectural plans for the dream house which was approved by the county government.

The President is set to hand over a three-bedroom house to the Kiptum’s wife later today.
