Kenyan President William Ruto canceled the contracts of the company responsible for the delay of a road project in Uasin Gishu County.

Speaking to the locals, Ruto criticized the contractor, saying that his unfinished work had slowed progress in the neighborhood.

In an attempt to justify his stance, Ruto explained that the project’s status had deteriorated during the past five years.

So I urged them to turn around and go in a different direction. If he wants to work, then let him go become a charcoal burner, Ruto said.

On Saturday, April 29, 2023, President William Ruto will officially open the Malava-Kimang’eti-Ikoli Road, which spans a total of 13 kilometers.

“That person has been on that road for five years and he has done nothing,” he further reprimanded the contractor.

To get the road from Keboi to Katembu built, however, he ordered local engineers to find a new contractor within two weeks. In addition, the President emphasized the significance of the route in establishing a connection between Nandi and Uasin Gishu County.

“We will look for a contractor to build that road,” Ruto told residents while commissioning the upgrading of 61-Kilometre roads linking Nandi and Uasin Gishu Counties.

At the same time, he gave orders to the local engineers in Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties to work with the contractors to build roads that would link universities, marketplaces, and schools.

No need to stop building that road at Katembu, I told them; continue on to Kipkaren instead. The President ordered that “another road be built in this area near a polytechnic,” and the engineers agreed.

Ruto argued that increasing the rate of road construction and improvement was essential to hastening the advent of a sustainable society.

“Our renewed and escalated investment in the construction of roads, especially in remote areas, is part of the Government’s large-scale plan to connect people and enterprises to the growing economic opportunities to accelerate sustainable and inclusive growth in the country,” Ruto said.
