President William Ruto’s political star is set to be tested amid a growing rebellion by the angry Mt Kenya masses following the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua by the National Assembly.
Ruto infuriated the region and violated ethnic sensibilities by orchestrating the ouster of his contentious deputy, who desired to be the territory’s supremo. However, some leaders and residents who support the DP have recently stated.
“No Gachagua, No Ruto. For us, divorcing Rigathi is divorcing the whole mountain,” Murang’a Senator Joseph Nyutu said.
The DP has openly declared that his boss, who selected him as his running mate to secure Mt Kenya votes and destroy Raila Odinga and Kenyatta in the 2022 elections, approvesd his impeachment.
The statements were delivered by the Deputy President last Monday at a press conference held at his Karen home.
During the National Assembly’s recent public participation over possible impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, some Mt Kenya locals chanted, “No Gachagua, No Ruto.”
“They need to listen to us, as they will need our support in 2027. We are backing one of our own, and if they ignore us, they should be ready to go home,” Macharia Mukua, a youth leader in Nakuru, said during the public participation.
If Gachagua loses his job, several locals have said they will never accept Ruto. According to Senator Nyutu, the mountain would stop endorsing both Ruto’s 2027 reelection campaign and his administration.
“It is something that we do not take lightly, and we know that without Ruto’s blessing, this motion would never have been tabled,” he added.
