A mysterious fire destroyed property of unknown value at a popular furniture store in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
The incident occurred at the Modern Furniture Pacific shop on Wednesday, 18 December, at around 7 am.
A fierce erupted inside the store before spreading to other parts and razing down several pieces of furniture.
Following the incident, area residents launched a rescue operation to contain the fire. However, the inferno spread quickly making it difficult to extinguish.
Kiambu County firefighters responded swiftly and managed to put out the fire which had already destroyed property worth millions of shillings. Luckily, no injuries were reported.
According to Modern Furniture Pacific CEO Gibson Murage Gitonga, one of the casual employees, Joseph Ng’ang’a Muhia, has been reported missing. CCTV footage shows him leaving the premises the day before the fire, and he has not been seen since.
The family has tried to find him in hospitals, police stations, and morgues, but their efforts have been unsuccessful.
