Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, widely known for her hit song Omije Ojumi, has passed away.

Her death was confirmed on Tuesday in a brief statement on Instagram by colleague Ayo Melody on behalf of her family. The post revealed that she died at a Lagos hospital on 12 January 2026.

“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (Omije Ojumi). May God grant her eternal rest,” the statement read.

Akinnaanu had been battling a serious leg ailment, which she publicly sought prayers for in October 2025 during a service at G.F David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State. Videos from the service showed her receiving prayers, with an intravenous (IV) cannula in her hand, highlighting the severity of her condition.

The pastor described her illness as a spiritual attack, referring to it as an “arrow,” and prayed against what he called the “spirit of death.”

Bunmi began singing at age 10 and later left a career in banking to pursue music full-time. She rose to prominence with Omije Ojumi, a song that became a favourite among Nigerian Christians, and followed it with several other uplifting tracks, including O Ti Sure.

Tributes have begun to pour in from fans and colleagues following her death.
