85 year old Pontiff has some advice for marriage couples who want to experience a successful union.
Pope Francis announced at the Angelus on the Feast of the Holy Family, he published today an open letter to married couples to seek help and always remember three key words in a marriage: “Please, thanks and sorry.”
In the letter, Francis said lockdowns and quarantines had forced families to spend more time together. But he noted that such enforced togetherness at times tested the patience of parents and siblings alike and in some cases led to real difficulties.
Francis said a failure to make peace before going to bed at night can lead to a “cold war” the next morning.
Here is the letter in its entirety.
“marriage, as a vocation, calls you to steer a tiny boat — wave-tossed yet sturdy, thanks to the reality of the sacrament — across a sometimes stormy sea.”
“Let us never forget, though, that by virtue of the sacrament of matrimony, Jesus is present in that boat,” the pope added. “He is concerned for you and he remains at your side amid the tempest.”
“Families have always been in my thoughts and prayers, but especially so during the pandemic, which has severely tested everyone, especially the most vulnerable among us.”
“The present situation has made me want to accompany with humility, affection and openness each individual, married couple and family in all those situations in which you find yourselves,” he said.
