Cases of domestic disputes escalating into extreme violence continue to shock the nation.
In a tragic incident, a former police officer, Dan Matakaya, permanently lost his eyesight after his wife poured acid on him in a fit of rage. The harrowing events unfolded after a seemingly ordinary argument over a household issue. Matakaya, who was on night duty, returned home early in the morning to rest. Unbeknownst to him, his wife had been planning a brutal attack.
As he lay asleep, she poured acid on his face, causing severe burns. To prevent his escape, she electrified the bedroom floor by pouring water and connecting it to a power source.
Matakaya’s screams alerted neighbours, who rushed to rescue him and transported him to the hospital.
Although doctors managed to save his life, the damage to his eyes was irreversible, leaving him completely blind.
The wife was later arrested but was released on bail. Matakaya, despite forgiving her on a personal level, has vowed to pursue justice.
He has only seen her again in court, where she expressed regret but could not explain her actions.
This incident highlights the devastating consequences of uncontrolled anger and domestic violence.
Matakaya’s life has been irrevocably altered, and he now faces daily struggles adapting to his new reality.
Domestic violence, regardless of gender, remains a pressing issue in the country.
Authorities and society must work together to address and prevent such incidents, ensuring that victims receive justice and support while fostering healthier relationships.
