Kitui residents have been left in shock after a police officer allegedly opened fire inside a local bar, killing two women, including one believed to have been his romantic partner. The officer, who was armed with an AK-47 rifle, is now the subject of a nationwide manhunt.
The shooting reportedly took place at Kanyonyoo Bar, where the officer is said to have entered calmly and headed straight to a table occupied by the woman believed to be his girlfriend. Witnesses say he shot her instantly before also shooting her companion, who was seated beside her. Both women died at the scene.
Following the attack, the suspect is reported to have dropped the firearm and fled, leaving behind the two bodies. Police later recovered the AK-47 rifle and 26 rounds of ammunition from the bar. Officers who responded to the incident arrived to find the suspect had already escaped.
The victims’ bodies were taken to the morgue as detectives launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities say they are actively pursuing the suspect and have appealed to the public for any information that could assist in his arrest.
