A month-long search for a school girl who went missing in Zimmerman, Nairobi County, yielded fruits when the local chief and police were tipped off that she was living with an older man.

The search for the Form Two had sent villagers into panic until yesterday when area sub-chief got wind of where the girl was hiding with a man and informed the police.

Officers from Kasarani police station set an ambush at the man’s house in Kawangware and arrested the duo. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found making the ransom demands in exchange for the girl’s freedom.

Claire Njeri had left their home in January in strange circumstances. Efforts to locate her proved futile until the mother received a call from the man demanding Sh100,000 ransom, prompting her to file a report at Kasarani Police Station.

The team was greatly saddened that the man would pull such a stunt and plunge the family and whole village into misery and disrepute.

The two were taken to police custody to await processing and arraignment in court.
