A police officer and DJ are among suspects who are set to be charged with murder over the brutal killing of Meru County-based blogger Daniel Muthiani aka Sniper.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said their involvement, together with others, in the killing of the blogger had been forensically proven.

“Four other suspects including a police officer and a local DJ whose involvement in the heinous murder was forensically proven from the point of abduction in Meru to Mutonga River where the deceased’s body was recovered are all set to be arraigned for murder,” said the DCI.

“While the High Court in Kiambu has already given directions for the mental assessment of Vincent Muriithi and Kenneth Murangiri Guantai (AP officer) ahead of their plea taking on January 29, 2024, the remaining three suspects (Boniface Kithinji Njihia alias DJ Kaboom, Brian Mwenda alias Brayo and Christus Manyara Kiambi) who are already in police custody after custodial orders were granted by the Kibera Chief Magistrate court will be arraigned on the same day.”

The DCI further stated that investigations are ongoing with more arrests expected to be done.

Sniper disappeared on December 2, 2023, before his body was discovered two weeks later.

Five suspects would later be arrested in connection to the killing, including; Kenneth Mutua Gatiri alias Gasigi, Fredrick Muruiki Kiugi alias Pope, Franklin Kimathi alias Dudu Ras, Timothy Kinoti alias Timo and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali.

They were nabbed in Meru town by homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on January 4, 2024, and booked at various police stations within Nairobi and Kiambu.

A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of the deceased at the Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary revealed that he died of strangulation.

Government pathologist Johansen Oduor, who conducted the examination, said Sniper had marks on his neck and exhibited signs of a person who had lacked oxygen.

He also had fractured ribs and showed injuries.
