Five suspected robbers were killed by an angry mob in Koitaburot, Soin Sigowet, after allegedly robbing a Sacco treasurer of Sh1.1 million.

The incident unfolded shortly after the treasurer withdrew the money from a bank in Muhoroni.

Police reports indicate that the treasurer was accosted by five men at Muhoroni shopping centre. The suspects forced him into a white Toyota Premio and sped off toward the West Valley Sugar Factory area.

Witnesses, including bodaboda riders, quickly raised the alarm and pursued the vehicle. At Kijiret, members of the public intercepted the car, dragged the suspects out, and beat them to death before police arrived.

Among the dead was a serving police officer. Authorities confirmed this after recovering a Certificate of Appointment belonging to Police Constable Jayson Kamau.

Other items found at the scene included a toy pistol resembling a revolver, several vehicle number plates, a mobile phone, and handcuffs. The vehicle used in the crime was also seized.

Police documented the scene and moved the bodies to the local morgue for post-mortem examinations and identification. Detectives are now working to establish how a serving officer became involved in the robbery.

This case highlights two troubling trends: criminals targeting bank customers after withdrawals, and communities resorting to mob justice instead of due process.

Authorities stress that while public vigilance is important, justice must be pursued through courts.
