Stereotypically, the Kenya police service has been undermined with the officers being perceived as uneducated and hence lacking the knowledge to handle the public. This seemingly is the main reason why the conflicts between police officers and civilians have increased in the recent past.
With the revolution in the service system of the country, the pursuit of education by the officers has changed the dynamics of the situation. The recent graduation ceremony at the University of Nairobi yesterday saw a rare occasion where a police officer graduated from the institution with a Ph.D. Officer Mbata Agutu, an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at the Matungu police station made history when he was crowned with a lucrative honour at the City University.
