Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi has been arrested after he led his supporters in disrupting voting at a polling station.
Mr Mwinyi, who stormed Bomu Primary School, accused Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho of plotting to rig him out in favour of his opponent, Mr Goshi Juma.
The school is one of the centres being used by ODM to conduct nominations in Mombasa County.
But Mr Juma denied and said Mr Mwinyi had sensed defeat.
Changamwe OCPD Peter Omanwa said the MP was apprehended for allegedly causing disturbance and destruction of property at the school.
Aside from Mr Mwinyi’s arrest, there have been pockets of chaos reported in various areas in the Coast region such as Kilifi and Tana River counties.
The Orange party’s National Elections Board chairperson Judith Pareno had said that violence will not be condoned.
Also, in most polling stations, voters complained that the exercise was delayed for hours.
