Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has advised former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta to stop getting involved in the internal squabbles of the Jubilee Party.

In a statement, Kabando praised Kenyatta for presiding over a smooth and democratic transition from the fourth to the fifth presidency, which earned him a great roll of honour despite wasting a historic chance for an exemplary legacy.

Kabando’s comments come after Kenyatta made a rare public appearance at Jubilee Party headquarters amid noisy wrangles over the Jeremiah Kioni vs Kanini Kega factions.

The former president expressed his frustrations over the police, appealing for peace and co-existence among Kenyans. When confronted by a neighbor over the noise created by the political activity in the area, Kenyatta assured the aggrieved resident that he had heard their pleas and hoped that both the government and police would do their part in ensuring a conducive living environment.

Kabando urged Kenyatta to focus on his legacy and avoid being embroiled in petty squabbles in a party that he believes is as dead as a dodo.

The former MP noted that Kenyatta’s involvement in the Jubilee Party wrangles could tarnish his reputation and legacy, which would be a shame given his contributions to Kenya’s political landscape.

The Jubilee Party has been riddled with infighting in recent months, with various factions fighting for control of the party’s leadership. Kabando’s advice to Kenyatta is a timely reminder to the former president to stay out of the fray and focus on his legacy, which is already secured through his smooth transition of power from 2013 to his retirement last year.
