Two people died after two planes collided mid-air in Nairobi on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. About 44 others escaped unhurt in the morning incident.
The incident involved a Safari Link plane which was headed for Diani with 44 occupants and a Cessna plane.
The Cessna aircraft, belonging to the Ninety Nines Flying School, had a pilot and trainee on board when the tragedy occurred. The two crew members inside the Cessna plane lost their lives during the crash. On the other hand, the crew members of the Safari Link aircraft were compelled to turn back to Wilson Airport due to an emergency.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) experts have commenced investigations to unravel what caused the collision.
As the KCAA continue to conduct a comprehensive analysis and piece together everything from the moment the two planes took off, it has emerged that the controller at the airport communicated with the pilots of both planes and informed them that they were headed in the same direction and this was not safe for them.
One of the pilots responded and told the controller that he had seen the other plane.
Aviation experts are trying to unravel the mystery and find out why the two planes were flying so close to each other.
