Fresh questions have emerged in the ongoing probe into the death of former Lugari MP and Cabinet Minister Cyrus Jirongo after former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia revealed that he spoke to Jirongo hours before his death. Kisia’s statement has now drawn attention because it appears to contradict an earlier account given by Senator George Khaniri regarding Jirongo’s call records.

In a video circulating online, Kisia said he spoke to Jirongo on December 12 at exactly 9:07 pm, adding that he had no idea it would be the last time they would communicate. His emotional remarks have sparked renewed public interest in the timeline of Jirongo’s final hours.

Earlier, George Khaniri had stated that preliminary analysis of Jirongo’s phone logs showed communication with only two individuals shortly before his death. According to Khaniri, those calls involved Moses Wetang’ula and himself, with no reference to a conversation with Philip Kisia.

The differing accounts have fueled speculation, with Kenyans questioning whether all call data has been fully disclosed. Observers argue that clarity on who spoke to Jirongo last is critical to understanding his movements and state of mind before the fatal crash.

Jirongo died on December 13 in a head-on collision with a bus along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway. Since then, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been analysing CCTV footage, interrogating the bus driver, and examining Jirongo’s mobile phone to reconstruct his final moments.

As investigations continue, the contradiction between Kisia’s claim and Khaniri’s earlier statement has intensified calls for transparency. Many now await an official explanation to reconcile the differing narratives and settle the growing public doubt.
