In a dramatic escalation of internal strife within Kenya’s Orange Democratic Movement Homa Bay Town MP George Peter Kaluma has emphatically dismissed claims that the recent removal of Edwin Sifuna as party Secretary General could destabilize the opposition giant.

The National Executive Committee voted to oust Sifuna with immediate effect during a heated meeting in Mombasa on February 11, 2026 citing gross indiscipline and conduct unbecoming of a senior official.

Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo was swiftly appointed as Acting Secretary General pending further processes.

Kaluma vocal ODM loyalist took to X to argue that Sifuna’s departure poses no real danger to the party.

He pointed to Sifuna’s alleged electoral failures, notably his inability to secure even the Kariobangi Ward for ODM in a recent by-election.

More strikingly Kaluma claimed that even Sifuna’s family didn’t vote for ODM despite the party rallying behind his successful bid for the Nairobi Senate seat.

“Who is his home MCA?” Kaluma questioned pointedly suggesting deep personal disloyalty amid broader accusations that Sifuna had long shifted allegiance toward Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while undermining ODM from within.

The MP framed the saga as a clear case of indiscipline masquerading as democracy.

Reiterating earlier calls Kaluma insisted Sifuna must immediately relinquish his Senate Minority Whip position and surrender all party and parliamentary assets including vehicles and facilities.

Indiscipline is not democracy he declared urging swift and decisive action to safeguard ODM’s integrity ahead of future political battles.

The ouster has ignited fierce debate across Kenya’s political landscape with some viewing it as a necessary reset for party discipline while others see it as symptomatic of deepening fractures.

As Sifuna prepares to address the media the episode underscores ODM’s ongoing struggle to maintain unity and cohesion in a rapidly evolving political environment.

Kaluma’s unapologetic stance signals that the purge may be far from over.
