President William Ruto and Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga have reportedly been unable to negotiate due to opposition from hardliners. The two groups’ enmity has now culminated in marches and protests, and this comes amid revelations of hidden attempts to broker a truce between them.

Religionists and the diplomatic community have reportedly tried to mediate a truce between the two, as reported by The Star. It has been clear, however, that extremists on both sides have sabotaged the talks, guaranteeing that nothing will come of the phone conferences.

According to sources, NCIC commissioner Danvas Makori acknowledged on Sunday that one of the attempts to reunite the two took place over the weekend. On the weekend, people worked to find common ground so that Kenya doesn’t fall into chaos. His attempts were fruitless, he told the outlet.

The Senior Spiritual Fathers Council of Kenya’s Bishop Kepha Omae has also stated that Christian and Muslim religious leaders have been making efforts to bring the two faiths together. He explained that everyone is urging the two to put national interests ahead of personal ones, prioritize maintaining calm above preserving power, and reach a compromise if necessary.

Dialogue is the Church’s preferred method of resolving disagreements and similar situations. Though they might not see eye to eye on everything, he assured me over the phone that they could find a middle ground where everyone could benefit. Raila has recently stated that he will continue his demonstrations against President Ruto until the cost of living is reduced.

He has also emphasized the importance of fair elections and, in response to Ruto’s intransigence, announced that there will be two demonstrations per week from now on.
