Raphael Obego, a preacher whose prayer left President William Ruto and a section of governors laughing during the Homa Bay County International Investment Conference has disclosed inspiration behind the prayer.
While narrating the ordeal, Obego noted that his vast experience as a student of theology for ten years inspired him to implement what he learnt in school during the event.
Obego further disclosed that he was also inspired by the fact that it was a rare opportunity and thus he was compelled to display his prowess as a preacher, being that he is the principal chaplain in Homa Bay County.
“Some people were asking me where I get the vocabulary that I use, it is normal, having studied theology for ten years. I remember all the words that I used and in their order,” Obego stated.
According to the preacher, he was unaware of how his prayer had amused President William Ruto and other political leaders and only learnt of it through friends who approached and informed him.
He further revealed that he was not the one supposed to lead the prayers, but due to the unavailability of the clergyman lined up, he was asked to step in.
“I was made to understand that the Ministry that I did has gone viral and I am grateful to God and I was not prepared for the opening prayer,” the pastor narrated.
I was made to understand it caused joy to people but I did not know because my eyes were closed during the prayer,” stated the preacher,” he added.
According to Obego, he began preaching in 1988 when he was first ordained and he regularly uses jargon in his sermons.
“I mentioned the word conglomeration which means a big gathering. I also used the world, circumambulate, meaning, i worship you or i plead with you. To thwart your dealings, this is a simple English word. Another acronym for the devil is the old nick,” the preacher stated.
On February 26, Obego left the audience in stitches, with his highly charged prayer that amused Ruto.
The prayer which went viral for a better part of Wednesday attracted reactions from Kenyans with some asking the preacher to make a similar one for the country.
