During cross-examination by the local authorities concerning the unexpected deaths and graveyard in Ezekiel’s Church, New Life Prayer Centre, and Church, the purpose of the graveyard in the church compound was expounded vividly by his advocates, Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta.
The graveyard in the Church Compound is meant for the Kaya burial ceremony, a burial ceremony conducted by the Mijikenda community in the coastal region.
Kaya is a special place set aside by the Mijikenda people to harbor the ancestors and spirits of the departed family members and community people at large. It began in the early 20th century at Kaya forest in the coastal region of Kenya, Kaya Mijikenda.
Being from a Mijikenda community, Pastor Ezekiel set up a Graveyard in his huge tract of land in Kilifi to honor his people who are yet to die and those who died a long time ago.
Furthermore, Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, claimed that the 15 people alleged to have succumbed to death in Pastor Ezekiel’s Church were all overwhelmed by the sickness. Moreover, they were allowed to attend Ezekiel’s mega healing services after their families allowed them to, a policy at New Life Prayer Centre and Church.
