Kiamunyi area of Rongai Constituency in Nakuru County, was thrown into shock on Monday after the body of a female student from Mount Kenya University’s main campus was found dumped in a maize plantation.
The victim was identified using her national identification and student card.

Kiamunyi Location Senior Chief Wilson Maraga confirmed the tragic incident, stating that the body was found in the Mercy Njeri Sub-location.

“This is a rare occurrence as our area is generally peaceful and free from major security issues,” the chief said.

Initial investigations suggest the victim was not a resident of the area. Documents found at the scene indicate she was a university student from Nandi South.

Police are yet to collect the body, and a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is expected to begin.

Local resident Brighton Roman, who was returning home from a shop, first spotted the body.

He raised the alarm, and three nearby farmworkers quickly joined him. One of the witnesses contacted the area sub-chief, who responded to the scene.

It has since emerged that the 23-year-old student had traveled from Thika to Nakuru on Saturday.

A bus fare receipt was found near her body, offering a potential clue in the unfolding investigation.
