A Good Samaritan was fatally shot as he tried to rescue a businesswoman being robbed near Kerugoya town on Friday night.
Peter Karimi had left his house to rescue an MPesa shop attendant who was being robbed by a gang at about 10 pm on Friday, when he was shot in the stomach.
According to local radio presenter Muhia wa Maina, the lady was heading home when the thugs on a motorbike ambushed her near Karimi’s home.Her screams attracted the attention of Karimi, who raised alarm in an attempt to rescue the woman.
In retaliation, the robbers shot at the man, hitting him on the stomach before grabbing the woman’s handbag.
The criminals then escaped on a motorbike leaving the man for dead.
Residents who heard the gunshots visited the scene and rushed the injured man to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital. Unfortunately, Karimi died while receiving treatment.
Confirming the incident, area police boss said a hunt for the gunmen is ongoing.
