For close to ten years, Mutinda, a celebrated gospel artist, illuminated concert stages and graced billboards nationwide as the face of various brands. The former TV sensation seamlessly transitioned into the dynamic world of music, basking in media coverage and dominating trends.
Mutinda’s iconic catchphrase, “Ni kama Drama, Ni kama Video,” echoed across platforms, garnering accolades and lucrative brand endorsement deals. A notable collaboration with Tanzanian hitmaker Rose Muhando in the song “Zamu Yangu” catapulted his success, securing him a substantial endorsement with a telecommunications giant from 2012 to 2015.
In a revealing interview with Afrimax in November of this year, Mutinda proudly asserted that he outearned his competitors, attributing his success to strategic partnerships. Little did he know that his health was silently deteriorating during this period.
Noticing a change in skin color in 2015, Mutinda dismissed it without any immediate complications. However, six years later, in 2021, his health took a severe turn. Unable to use the restroom for a week, he sought medical attention at Kenyatta National Hospital, where the shocking diagnosis unfolded.
X-rays revealed a compromised spinal cord, kidney infections, elevated blood pressure, and a battle with depression. Mutinda, emotionally distraught, shared how his whole foot swelled, leading to the heartbreaking decision to sell all his assets to salvage his health.
“I had a farm which I just sold at a low price so that I could be treated,” he disclosed, his finances depleted due to mounting medical expenses. To compound his struggles, close allies allegedly turned their backs on him, with rumors circulating about his demise.
