The family of Jackson Mukundi is crying out for justice after he was allegedly killed by his employer, Justine Mwithalii. The shocking incident has sparked outrage among residents, who took to the streets in protest.
Mukundi, a boda boda rider, was reportedly working for Mwithalii, who owned the motorbike he used. Trouble began when Mukundi failed to return the motorbike for two days and did not send the daily earnings to his employer. Furious over the delay, Mwithalii allegedly subjected Mukundi to a brutal beating, leaving him with severe head injuries.
His cousin, Kennedy Kariuki, recalled receiving a chilling midnight call informing him that Mukundi was being assaulted.
“I was afraid to go outside. I heard it was the Mavaite gang, and I couldn’t go alone,” he said.
Mukundi’s close friend, Patrick Musyoki, who worked as a night guard, also felt powerless to intervene.
“I had no means to help him. Even if you were in my position, guarding vehicles, would you have stepped out?” he lamented.
According to reports, Mukundi’s lifeless body was found later, with injuries suggesting he had been tortured before his death. Kariuki, who discovered the body, described a horrifying scene.
“When I called someone, they told me, ‘Don’t waste your time. We killed him and buried him.’ I found him locked inside, beaten badly. His head had deep wounds, and blood was flowing from the back of his skull.”
Outraged by the brutality, angry residents stormed and destroyed Mwithalii’s rental houses in an act of retaliation. They demanded justice and called on the authorities to arrest those responsible.
Lang’ata police have launched an investigation into the murder, but Mukundi’s family wants swift action.
“We just want justice. No one deserves to die like this,” said a grieving relative.
The case has also raised questions about Mwithalii’s business activities, with some witnesses hinting at suspicious dealings. A neighbor, identified as Nya-Migori, was puzzled by the motive behind the killing.
