As a topic that has been in constant discussion over the past few years, dowry refund has been campaigned over, especially by the male gender, who have been in constant debate over the issue after facing numerous disappointments in their failing marriages.
According to a caller on The Morning Kiss, he got into a disagreement with the in-laws after they refused to refund the dowry which was accounted for 50,000 Kenyan shillings after he broke up with the wife months after marriage.
According to the in-laws, they already ‘sold’ their daughter and the rest is up to the guy. Apparently, the argument was, money taken cannot be refunded over the guy’s mistakes or the wife’s.
It is okay to part ways once you see the marriage isn’t working.
Dowry has been a commitment since time immemorial because marriage before was supposed to last a lifetime hence It was mandatory to pay the dowry for your wife till death.
Today, marriage is still treasured and dowry is still being paid. For better understanding, marriage isn’t a try and error therefore if you settle for marriage, be prepared to pay for dowry with no refunds.
