Another Mukumu Girls’ High School student has tragically passed away from complications brought on by contaminated food. While the school deals with a problem that has parents and the community in disbelief, this takes the overall number of victims to three.

Before passing on, the most recent victim, whose identity has not been revealed, had been receiving care at a local hospital for a number of days. Whilst the reason of the contamination is still being looked into, early reports indicate that it might have been because of the school’s kitchen’s substandard cleanliness and sanitation measures.

Parents and members of the public are outraged by the news of the most recent tragedy and are demanding immediate action to stop any such deaths. The administration of the school has faced harsh criticism for how they handled the problem, with many charging them with carelessness and incompetence.

Former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale has demanded that the head of Mukumu Girls’ High School resign in the midst of this turmoil. He sent his sympathies to the victims’ families in a press release and demanded a thorough investigation of the incident.

“These students’ deaths are a tragedy that shouldn’t have occurred. There were major management failures at the institution, and those accountable must be held to account. I’m requesting that the head of the school be fired right away and that quick measures be done to prevent this from happening again “he said.

The tragedy that occurred at Mukumu Girls’ High School has once more highlighted the need for improved food safety in schools all over the nation. It serves as a sharp reminder of the need for schools to uphold strict standards of hygienic practises and cleanliness and to implement all necessary safety measures.

The families of the victims and the community at large are still having a difficult time accepting the loss of these young lives while the inquiry into the contamination progresses. It serves as a sad reminder of the frailty of life and the necessity of making sure that our children’s classrooms are nurturing and safe spaces.
