Senator Okiya Omtatah of Busia claims to have received offers to drop his lawsuit against the Finance Act 2023 for up to Sh200 million.

Omtatah said in his statement at the People’s Anti-corruption Summit on Tuesday that he declined the offers because they were an effort to undermine the legal system of Kenya.

The senator reaffirmed his dedication to respecting the rules of justice and battling corruption. Insisting that his appeal was motivated by a sincere concern for the wellbeing of the people and the economy, he promised not to give in to any attempts to undermine the fairness of the judicial system.

Well, Omtatah alleged that he told them that just as they have a price for him of Kes 200 million, he also had a price for them.

According to Omtatah, he told them that if they find it difficult to lead the country in which authority was bestowed upon them by the people through the ballot, then they should just do the easiest by resigning, allow leaders who are capable to govern the country to next levels.

The High Court temporarily stopped the Finance Act 2023’s execution on June 30 in response to a petition submitted by Omtatah.

The already enacted Finance Bill of the 2023-202 period was put on hold until Omtatah’s lawsuit was heard and decided by Lady Justice Mugure Thande.
