A DJ at the 2024 Paris Olympics has been hailed a ‘genius’ after showcasing the quickest possible way to end an argument.
All you need is a group of athletes, loud speakers and thousands of spectators.
Viewers of the Paris Olympics were left in shock after a DJ stepped in to defuse a heated exchange of words between a group of passionate volleyball players representing their nations.
Featuring in the women’s gold medal match was Canada and Brazil who were fighting it out for Olympic glory on Saturday (10 August).
Though during the third set of the match at the Eiffel Tower Stadium, it almost ended in a fight.
Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson came face-to-face with Ana Patricia Silva Ramos of Brazil as the trio appeared to be arguing over a decision.
As they were stood shouting at one another, the referee was forced to intervene to try and separate the group.
But while Wilkerson and Ana Patricia locked eyes, the DJ decided to take part in a musical masterclass by playing John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’.
The group immediately began singing along to the lyrics and before you know it, the athletes backed off each other and soon saw the funny side.
Both teams were seen laughing at the incident and started to focus on more sporting matters.
After BBC shared the clip, it didn’t take long for it go viral.
Taking to X, one viewer commented: “Now that’s how you diffuse tension with style! The DJ playing ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon during an argument at the beach volleyball match is pure genius.
“A little reminder of peace and unity in the midst of competition. Let’s hope it brought some smiles and calm to the players—after all, it’s the Olympics spirit!”
Another tweeted: “Brilliant quick thinking and extraordinary how quickly it worked.”
“Absolutely beautiful reaction when the song came on,” someone else said.
In the end, Brazil beat Canada 2-1 to take home the Olympic women’s beach volleyball gold.
Speaking about the incident, Ramos said: “It happens in matches, everyone tries to win, but now everything is OK.
“We have a lot of respect for them. We talked on the court (to resolve it).”
“We’re pretty amped up, partners are coming in, refs are coming in. So it was a bit of a mess,’ Wilkerson added.
“But after the game, and even right when they came to shake our hands, still on the court, there was an immediate hug.
“We’re competitors and we are fighting for the same thing: There’s only one gold medal.
“Immediately after the game, it’s all love and respect.
“We bring out the best in each other, and I’m honoured to play against this team.”
