Speaking after the ODM Youth League meeting in Machakos Town, Ketora acknowledged the 100% turnout from all the 47 counties and read a statement by the team stating, “The YL supports the nomination of its president, who is here talking to you, John Ketora as the member of the national assembly to fill the vacated position by our CS Treasury and our former chairman Mbadi.”

Vihiga senator Godfrey Osotsi and ODM deputy party leader expressed the party’s confidence in the Youth leader’s capacity to serve in the mandate during the meeting graced by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Kisumu Woman representative Ruth Odinga.

“This demonstrates that the top leadership of this party is committed to having a stronger and more vibrant youth league. So, I’m here to represent the top leadership and my other two deputy party leaders to say that as the top leadership of the party, we will support the youth league to be what it should be,” Osotsi said.

Fellow youth league member Hon Umulkheir Harun, a nominated MP from Garissa also welcomed Ketora to the house during her address saying, “We are happy to announce that we will also have a replacement in the just announced vacancy within the house and I’m happy to welcome my brother Ketora to the house.”

The ODM officials also affirmed that despite the fact that some of its top officials had been appointed to serve in the cabinet, it would continue to fulfil its oversight duties as the opposition.

Edwin Sifuna, the party’s Secretary General also highlighted the party’s success in being the most organised party in Kenya having covered all the factions of the society, and lauded the youth league for demonstrating clear understanding of their mandate as the opposition party.

“This shows that the young people in this party know who they are, they know themselves, they know their party, and therefore, the youth league president, I want to congratulate you for continuing with the good work of ensuring you fly the flag of ODM as high as possible,” Sifuna said.

“We have three leagues; youth, women, and ODM disability, and all these leagues are critical to the functioning and success of this party. I’m extremely encouraged by the message that has come out of this meeting that this party will retain its identity even in light of recent developments in the formation of the broad-based government,” Sifuna said.

As a self-proclaimed oldest member of the youth league, Senator Orengo said “We are going to keep our identity, vision and remain the best organized party not only in the Republic of Kenya, but in the region. With that vision, organisation, and discipline that our members have, the sky isn’t the limit, the sky is just a target, and we aim above the sky. We are going to succeed.”

During the presser, they also addressed Party leader Raila’s bid for the African Union Chairmanship and urged Kenyans to keep trusting in him and praying for him as the elections neared.

“If you continue with your support for the party leader, I believe in the fullness of time, he will be able to make it to the AU. Thank you for endorsing the proposal that came from the central committee on the changes in the party’s leadership beginning with three deputy leaders and also the new chairperson, Gladys Wanga,” Sifuna said.
