The Kenyan film industry is in mourning following the untimely demise of Sultana actress Winnie Bwire aka Dida.

The actress lost the battle to cancer while undergoing treatment in Turkey.

Bwire’s death announcement was made public by her family through media personality Lulu Hassan.

“It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle with cancer on 5th September 2024, while undergoing treatment in Turkey.

“We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers, and generous giving during her treatment. We will share more details in due course” read the family statement.

Here is a list of Kenyas who have succumed to Cancer

Waweru Mburu: He was the former head of Radio Citizen. He died from gastric cancer at MP Shah Hospital on 28 September 2016.

Prof Wangari Maathai- The Environmentalist succumbed to Ovarian Cancer in 2011. She was aged 71.

Njenga Karume – The Former minister and MP for Kiambaa succumbed to Prostrate Cancer in 2011, aged 83. At the time of his death he had been admitted at Karen Hospitals ICU.

Nderitu Gachagua ( The former Nyeri County Governor died from Pancreatic cancer in 2017, aged 64. He had battled the condition for two years at a London Hospital.

Janet Kanini – The late NTV presenter succumbed to lung cancer in March 2017.

Francis Nyenze – The former Kitui West MP died from Colon cancer in 2017.

Grace Kipchoim – The former Baringo South MP died from Acute Colon Cancer in 2018.

Ben Oluoch – He was a former Migori Senator who succumbed to throat cancerin 2018

Ken Okoth – Okoth was the Kibra Mp until his demise. He died from Colorectal Cancer in 2019, aged 41.

Jonathan Toroitich Moi – The late was a son to late President Daniel Moi. He died from Pancreatic cancerin 2019.

Bob Collymore – He was the Safaricom CEO, who died from Acute Myeloma leukemia in in July 2019 while undergoing treatment abroad.

Joyce Laboso – She was the Bomet Governor, who died in 2019 aged 58. She had been battling the condition for 28 years.

Jane Kiano – The late was once a Chairperson for the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization. she succumbed to Lung cancer in 2020.

Catherine Kasavuli – The late Broadcaster died from Cervical Cancer in 2022

Bishop Allan Kiuna – He was the Jubilee Christian Church Founder who died in ) – 2024 from Myeloma cancer.

Rosemary Alakie Mboya – She was the daughter to the late veteran politician Tom Mboya. She died Dec 2022, at Coptic Hospital in Nairobi after a four-year battle with breast cancer.

Purity Wambui – She was the wife of Actor Matayo Keya, also known as Alphonse Makokha. She passed away on June 1, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.
