Nairobi regional police commander Adamson Bungei addressing the press in a past occasion

Just hours after a delegation from Azimio faction led by council chairman Wycliffe Oparanya, Eugene Wamalwa, Jeremiah Kioni and George Wajackoya served notice to the regional police commander, of their intent to hold demonstrations next week, the commander has made a statement that threatens to send the coalition back to the drawing board.

Reacting to the letter served to his office, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei has said that his office was a wrong destination for such requests. According to Bungei the Azimio leaders should have addressed and served the letter to the OCS of the area where they expect to stage their procession. In this case, Central police station.

As things stand,Bungei has maintained that the request remains null and void unless the Azimio team moves with speed and approach Central police station OCS or wherever they prefer to hold their procession.

“We have procedures on how we serve the letters for protest or picketing, as guided by the law. Under Section 2 of the Public Order Act”.

“It is indicated very clearly who is the regulating officer of the permits to be issued. It is the officer in charge of a police station. At this level of mine, this is a regional command, whereby we dispense services to the police stations,” Bungei said.
