Hundreds of women in Uasin Gishu county have protested against rising alcoholism in the region, blaming it for the lack of ECDE children in the region. The women lamented that their husbands had stopped caring for their homes and have neglected their conjugal duties since they are spending more of their days drinking in bars.

Selina Martin, Alice Ruto, and Beatrice Korir were leading the protesting women. According to Selina, there haven’t been any new pregnancies recently and some ECD units have been closed since there are no kids of the Pre unit age, as a result of men neglecting their conjugal duties due to alcoholism.

The women begged the county government to quickly intervene and close all of the local bars in order to stop the alcoholism-related breakdown of families in the area. They want their men to start being responsible and lead as an example as the head of their families.
