Butere Girls High School principal, Jennifer Omondi, is set to retire from service, ending speculation that she was being transferred.
Earlier reports had linked Omondi to a possible transfer to Wajir Day Secondary School. The claims surfaced after Butere Girls staged Echoes of War during the national drama festivals.
The play, known for its bold script, drew mixed reactions across the country. It sparked public interest and ignited a debate about creative freedom in schools.
Some observers assumed Omondi was facing disciplinary action for the school’s choice of play. However, updated information now confirms her exit is through regular retirement.
“There is no retribution on the basis of the play,” said Dennis Itumbi in an interview, refuting claims of punitive action.
The alleged transfer caused worry among students, alumni, and education stakeholders. Many believed the principal was being punished for encouraging artistic expression.
Omondi has led Butere Girls through academic and artistic growth. The school has earned recognition for both excellence in exams and outstanding stage performances.
Her planned departure now shifts attention to how education authorities will handle similar creative expressions moving forward, especially in national co-curricular platforms.
