Kawira Mwangaza, the embattled Governor of Meru, seems to be caught in an unending cycle of political turmoil. Her recent impeachment by the Senate, which she swiftly challenged in court, has only added to her woes. The High Court, in response to her appeal, blocked the impeachment and scheduled a hearing for September, offering a temporary reprieve. However, this may be only a brief pause in what has become a relentless campaign against her.

Meru County MCAs, led by Dennis Kiogora, remain determined to see Mwangaza ousted from office. Kiogora, who has been at the forefront of the impeachment efforts, has vowed to draft a sixth impeachment motion if the court quashes the Senate’s decision. This resolve underscores the deep-seated opposition to Mwangaza’s leadership within the county assembly.

The unyielding stance of the MCAs suggests that even if Mwangaza wins her case in September, her struggles are far from over. The looming threat of another impeachment motion signifies that her political adversaries are prepared to go to great lengths to remove her from office, regardless of the court’s decision.
