The One Kenya Coalition’s Azimio la Umoja faction has reversed course on what it plans to do if the planned 2023 Finance Bill is approved by parliament.
Instead of the mass protests that had been called for by Azimio leader Raila Odinga, the coalition has decided to seek legal action should the bill be enacted by the Members of the national Assembly. This was revealed by Raila’s representative at the Kikuyu Council of Elders Headquarters in Kiambu.
According to a message conveyed by Senator Moses Kajwang of Homabay, Raila claims that the Kenya Kwanza wing is involved in buying off Azimio affiliated MPs in order to ensure passage of the Bill in the House of Representatives.
Kajwang disclosed that, should the MPs pass the bill, the Azimio wing will immediately deploy a fleet of attorneys to prevent the government from enforcing it.
He expressed optimism that the Kenyan Judiciary would rule impartially and assist in preventing the bill from being implemented in the country.
“Raila amejitolea na amesema ataendelea kupigania haki za wakenya na hatanyamasishwa. Kama wale wataninunua wabunge na hiyo Sheria ipite. Sisi tuatelekea korti Kwa sababu tuko na lawyers wengi wako ready kupambana nao” Kajwang said. (from 19 to 20 minutes of this video).
