Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has recently adjusted his stance on Raila Odinga, the opposition leader, during President William Ruto’s visit to the Nyanza region. In a speech to residents in Kisumu, Gachagua echoed former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s past praise for Raila, affirming that Kenyatta had previously vouched for Railaās good character. Gachagua emphasized that he now supports Railaās bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship, reflecting a shift from previous positions. He explained that with both Uhuru Kenyatta and President Ruto endorsing Raila, he feels aligned with this view and cannot oppose it.

President Ruto’s visit includes the commissioning of several projects, such as the Kisumu Marine School, Kibos Rice Mill, and Lumumba Affordable Housing Project, signaling a focus on development in the region.
