The National Police Service has announced major changes affecting senior officers across the country to improve how police work is carried out.
Michael Nyaga Muchiri, who has been serving as the Kiambu Police Commander, is now the new National Police Spokesperson.
He takes over from Dr. Resila Onyango, who has been moved to head the Diplomatic Police Unit as the Commandant.
Coast Regional Police Commander George Sedah has been transferred to Nairobi to take over from Adamson Bungei as the new police boss in the city.
Bungei has been recalled to police headquarters and is now the new Director of Operations.
Ali Nuno, the Kwale County Police Commander, has been promoted to Coast Regional Police Commander. Nuno, known for his tough approach, will now lead efforts to deal with criminal gangs in Mombasa and other areas in the region.
Other key changes include:
Amos Omuga, a senior officer at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), moved to the National Police Headquarters in Jogoo House.
Dr. Mwangi Wanderi, previously in charge of the National Forensics Laboratory at DCI, is now the Director of Human Capital at Vigilance House.
Michael Sang, who led the Serious Crimes Unit at DCI, has been appointed as the new DCI boss in the Eastern Region.
Daniel Korir, who was the Eastern Regional DCI boss, is now heading the Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU).
Judy Jebet is the new head of Community Policing, replacing John Gachomo, who has been moved to police headquarters.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said these changes are meant to make the police service more effective and ensure security challenges across the country are addressed.
In Mombasa, where gangs using crude weapons have been causing fear, there is hope that Nuno’s appointment will bring positive change. The newly reassigned officers are expected to bring fresh energy and focus to their new roles.
